Passion and love for the vineyard and knowledge and expertise in the art of viticulture have been our family’s most important inheritance. Three generations have been able to preserve the commitment to an idea which is much more than a business enterprise: it is a family legacy; it is our way of life.
Always loyal to the land, with a fighting innovative spirit we have maintained the project started by our grandmother and continued by subsequent generations dedicated to wine making. To our winery in Navarra which we have seen be born and grow , we’ve added a winery in the land of La Rioja which is situated in the sub-zone of Rioja Alta. This winery with its fields of vines of Tempranillo grapes made true our family dream of diversification in the wine world, positioned in the national and international markets by the emblem of Denominación de Origen Calificada which permits us to continue to make authentic local wines.
In tribute to our roots we’ve christened our wineries with the name of our grandmother: Flavia Olimpia Oficialdegui.
She used to tell us that she was born at midday and that her mother recalled this perfectly because it was a Sunday and she almost gave birth during the mass service. On 15April 1917, in Artajona, Flavia Olimpia Oficialdegui, our grandmother, was born.
She became an orphan at an early age, and had to go and live at her aunt’s and uncle’s house in Unzué, and later moved to the town of Ibero to live with one of her uncles, who was a priest. However, she never forgot about Artajona, her homeland, and she was lucky enough to meet and fall in love with her life-long partner there, Javier, a farmer from the village where she was born. She married him and gave birth to nine children.
After much effort and hard work, they went from being farmers to owning their own winery and wine shop in Pamplona.
Flavia Olimpia, our grandmother, was an enterprising and passionate woman who possessed a fighting spirit. She was a tenacious worker, whose effort and vision for the future created a legacy which remains very much alive in the spirit of our family today.
The wine-making story of the Pérez de Ciriza family began in 1952, when the family moved from their home town of Artajona to Pamplona and established their first winery. Over the years, the new generations have been incorporated into the winery continuing the project and knowing how to maintain the essence of their origin while adapting to change.
Presently, four members of the family manage the operation of this unique winery:
Pablo Javier Pérez de Ciriza, is the connecting link between the original values. of Bodegas Olimpia. Together with his brother Juan Fernando, he laid down the foundation stones for building what is known today as Bodegas Olimpia.
Fernando Pérez de Ciriza, currently the General Manager from Bodegas Olimpia, has benn linked to the winery since his early work experience and it was he, who initiated the strategy of internationalization in the winery.
Berta Pérez de Ciriza, Export Manager and is responsible for commercial and marketing duties at the Bodega, thereby introducing its wines into international markets.
Pablo Pérez de Ciriza, chief technician at the Bodega, who, together with the oenologist, is in charge of the production and preservation of our wines
